The end of superstitions

Wow! I cannot believe it is the end of these blogs already, although it will be one more weight lifted off my shoulder, I realized there are so many other superstitions I still have not covered. Superstitions such as, opening an umbrella indoors or cracking a mirror

. Not everyone believes in these things but I feel it can be fun to go along with the sayings. Lately I have been into palm reading, which I consider a superstition as well because it is something some people can believe in, or they can think it is absolutely insane. In the Merriam Webster dictionary the definition of a superstition is: a belief or way of behaving that is based on fear of the unknown and faith in magic or luck : a belief that certain events or things will bring good or bad luck.

a :  a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation

b :  an irrational abject attitude of mind toward the supernatural, nature, or God resulting from superstition

Although palm reading is not based on fear or saving myself from bad luck, but it is considered a belief and an abject attitude of mind toward the supernatural, nature or God resulting. It is not anything that is related to demons or anything negative, it is just something personal.

All in all, in some way I could guarantee everyone is superstitious in some way.  Whether it is, knocking on wood, keeping a lucky coin in your pocket, or doing a repetitive routine before any game. For instance, whenever I am going up to bat for a baseball game, I push the sand around with my feet, sing a bat a bit and then get in position. I always found that doing this would bring me more luck hitting the ball. It is all up to you know, are you a believer or not? Without these superstitions I think many things would be different, I am a firm believer that there is luck and fate all around us. Without the superstitions I do, maybe I would not have had my first grand slam in grade three. If I did not make a wish on eleven, eleven that ball probably would not have gone three hundred feet away. I mean who knows, what do you believe?

Dreams

This week on my blog I am very excited to bring up the superstition on dreams! I was a little lost at what I wanted to do this week when I found out about this one. When I mean dreams I mean the meanings of certain things inside your dreams. For instance, I am always having dreams of myself falling off a cliff. I am pretty sure I am not the only one who has those dreams too, the ones where you are falling and then suddenly wake up a bit frightened. Now I am anxious to get started because there are some very interesting superstitions on dreams. Be ready to be surprised!

To begin, these are all things that give you a sign through something you see in your dream. There is so many but I decided to pick the most interesting in my mind. Also things that is more likely to be seen in most people dreams. My warning is, if you are afraid of these superstitions coming true maybe you should stop here, a lot of the tales are not good luck. Things such as, if you dream of birth, it is a sign of death. To carry a closed umbrella in the rain is very unfortunate because it creates bad luck for the dreamer’s business plans. Although to dream of carrying an open umbrella in the rain is very lucky sign for most endeavours. With every negative there is always positive too, to dream of a smiling face can signify pleasant new friends or it can mean something different, it can explain reasons for financial gains. To dream of unpleasant or gross looking face can portray loss. Other things on the face is: to dream you are washing your face “ denotes a necessity to atone for some past indiscretion”( corsinet.com), so bad luck. To see a face of a stranger signifies an approaching change of residence. Out of all this I think the only dreams I can remember would have been, actually to my knowledge I have had any dreams with any of those symbols. It is weird because I do have to be honest, I have very strange dreams, and every morning when I wake up I really do wonder how dreams are produced because our minds can think of really weird things. Sometimes my dreams are related to something in my life or it is a complete random dream.

There is so many more I could explain to you but I do not want to bore you lastly the one I would like to explain is if you are dreaming about falling. It indicates a loss of emotions or of self-control. It could represent our insecurities or lack of self-confidence, a fear of failure or can show how someone cannot cope with a situation. In my opinion it makes perfect sense for a falling dream. I would have never even thought about that.
